shankhumugham

Shanghumugham Beach is located just 8 km from Thiruvananthapuram city and is a popular tourist spot. The beach is adjacent to the Thiruvananthapuram Airport and the Veli Tourist Village. Shanghumukham is particularly famous for its view of spectacular sunsets. While at Shanghumugham you can see the fishermen fishing with their huge nets in the day time. This beach is also famous for its star shaped restaurant, the Chacha Nehru Traffic Training Park, and the 'Matsya Kanyaka'(Nymph), a gigantic sculpture of a mermaid measuring 35m long and an interior recreation club. Sculpted by Kanai Kunjiraman, the matsya kanyaka lies seductively just off the Shanghumugham beach. During temple festivals the beach witnesses ritual washing of temple idols.
