Pythal Mala

Pythal Mala is located around 65 kms from Kannur town. This is a hill station, situated 4,500 ft above sea level near the Kerala - Karnataka border. There is a 6 km trek to the top of the hills. Pythal Mala, the enchanting hill station is rich in flora and fauna. It is a 6 kms trek to the top of the hills. This beautiful, calm hill station, is now being developed as a hill resort. There is a proposal to set up a zoo at the top of the hill. The enchanting hill station offers a challenging trek to those inclined to stretch their legs. Trekkers are rewarded by a profusion of exotic flora and fauna and an exhilirating view from the top. For the advantage of tourists, there is a base reception centre and a watchtower atop the cliff. This calm hillock lies 64 kms away from Kannur and 44 kms north-east of Thaliparamba. Paithal Mala  is a much sought after haven for tourists from across the state during summer. This 300 acre wide sprawling area is a safe home to numerous birds, hundreds of butterflies, rare plants and trees. Even during the summer at Paithal Mala one can relish a real cool climate. En route to the top of the hill one can see the remains of the run down palace of the tribal king called Vaithalkon.
