Peermade

Peermade is a small hill station located on the way to Thekkady. It had formerly been the summer palaces of Travancore Rajas and is full of rubber, tea, coffee, pepper and cardamom plantations, waterfalls and open grasslands. Peeremade and its surroundings are suitable for trekking, cycling and horse riding. Kuttikanam a place for adventure tourism and trekking is just 3 kms from Peeremade. Another attraction here is Thrissanku Hills four km away. These hills offer a breathtaking view of the sunrise and sunset. About 43 km away from Peermade is the famous Periyar wildlife Sanctuary. It has elephants, tigers, sambhar and many other animals, which attract people from all over. Many say that you may actually spot some of these animals in the grasslands of Peermade. Some of these are, Monkeys, Languor and Bison. The other attractive place nearby is the Thrissanku Hills about 4 kms from Peermade. It is a great place to go on long walks and enjoy the beautiful sunset and sunrise. The Sufi saint and an associate of the rulers Peer Mohammed lends his name to Peermade. Peermade thus means the hill of the Peer. The weather is cool at Peermade all through the year owing to its altitude. The cool breezes make Peermade pleasant to be visited any time of the year.
