Munnar

Munnar is located 55 km from Idukki town. This hill station is located at the meeting place of three mountain streams, which are Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. It is located 1600 m above sea level and was the summer resort of the British Government in South India. Munnar has some of the highest tea estates in India. A beautiful flower called Neelakurinji blooms and covers the hilltops in once every twelve years attracts a lot of tourists. The highest peak in South India, the Anamudi, which is over 2695 mts, is also located here. This beautiful hill station is covered with tea plantations. Munnar is an ideal destination for a peaceful vacation. It offers a variety to the visitors in terms of sight seeing as there are lots of tourist attractions including the lakes, dams, wild life sanctuaries and tea and spice plantations. Munnar has the highest peak in south India the Anamundi Hills which rises to a height of 2695 ms. There are many colonial bungalows and buildings in Munnar. Munnar is also near several wildlife sanctuaries including the Erivakulam National Park, which is home to the rare Nilgiri Tahr. This mountain goat is extremely endangered and is only found on the heights of the Nilgiri Hills and some nearby parts of the Western Ghats. There are many waterfalls, lakes and streams among the green hill slopes and valleys of the Western Ghats in Munnar. It is also a favorite destination of adventure tourists. There are facilities for trekking, camping, birdwatching tours, rock climbing and even para-sailing and hang-gliding. Fishing is a popular sport in the streams and lakes of Munnar.
