Lock Heart Gap

Lock Heart Gap is 13 kms from Munnar. This is an ideal place for adventure tourism and trekking. The fresh mountain air, the mist-clad hills and panoramic view make it worthy of a visit. The extensive Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala lake are nearby attraction. Lock Heart Gap offers you its panoramic beauty of its Western range of hills and its salubrious winds, and availability of splendid trekking opportunity. The Lock Heart Gap provides for a pass in the mountain with some enticing treks and routes. Lock Heart gap is located on the Kochi to Madurai National Highway and clings precariously on a rocky slope for over 2 kms. There is a mist-wrapped villages 2000 ft. below on one side and vertical rocky formations on the other side. Rare wild flowers including Neelakurinji are abundant on either side of the gap. Neelakurinji is an exotic flower which blooms only once in twelve years. This makes it a picture perfect location. There was a cave there known as Lock Heart Cave believed to have been used by Malaikkallan, a legendary highway robber. This was an interesting tourist spot till recently but now it has been broken away to widen the road.
