Lakkidi

This hill station is situated 55 kms east of Kozhikode and 5 kms south of Vythiri. It is located at the crest of the Thamaraserri ghat pass. It is called the gateway to Wayanad and is situated 700 m above mean sea level. Lakkidi registers the second highest degree of rainfall in the world. As you travel towards Lakkidi you will get to see lofty peaks, gurgling streams and luxuriant forests up the winding roads. Lakkidi is one of the highest locations in Wayanad. 3 kms from Lakkidi is the Pookot Lake. It is a natural fresh water lake, very wide and deep and one of the rare reservoirs of water in Wayanad. This lake is surrounded on all sides by meadows and hills and is one of the favorite picnic spots. To travel to this hill station you have to go up high peaks, streams and forests. Killikkurissimangalam in Lakkidi is the birthplace of Kunjan Nambiar, Kerala's famous satirist poet and one who is regarded as the progenitor of Ottanthullal, the traditional solo dance narration. His house is preserved as a monument by the Government of Kerala.
