Aranmula Temple

Aranmula Temple is located in Pathanamthitta district. It is famous as one of the five temple towns of Kerala. Lord Parthasarathy is the presiding deity of the Aranmula temple. The Aranmula Temple is famous for its murals, which were carved out during the 18th century. It is said that this temple has existed since the time of Mahabharata. There are five ancient shrines around Chengannur, sanctified by the Pandavas.

Aranmula is famous for Aranmula kannadi, a special metal mirror Composed of a special metal alloy, instead of glass. This mirror is a speciality of Aranmula and can be found no where else in the world. The exact metals used in the alloy are unknown, but they are mixed with copper and tin to cast the mirrors, before being polished for several days in a row to achieve their reflective surface.0

Aranmula temple comes alive during the time of Onam festival. Snake boat races are held in this temple every year and attracts thousands of devotees. The temple premises is decorated beautifully and people gather here to offer prayers and cheer for those participating in the boat race.
